We believe your story.

The one where you’re exhausted by the constant struggle to manage your body, your food, and yourself.

Where you’ve spent years—maybe even decades—trying to make yourself smaller and more acceptable to others.

Where you’re longing for a supportive community of people who get it—people who are capable of honoring your emotional and spiritual needs.

Sometimes you know you don’t want to go back, but you don’t know how to go forward.

We get it.

And we’re here for you.

‘I AM A PERSON RECLAIMING BODY TRUST’

There is another way.
By reclaiming Body Trust, you can:

End the vicious cycle of dieting and shame.

Heal your relationship with your body and with food.

Tame your inner critic.

Listen to your inner wisdom while learning to trust yourself and your body.

Feel vibrantly connected to your life.

Body Trust is a homecoming

It is a return to the innate wisdom of your own embodied experience—your body’s messages, cues, desires, hungers, and rhythms.

Much of what we are taught about living in a body is about doing things to and on the body instead of for and with the body.

When the very wise ways we’ve adapted and coped for our own survival run counter to mainstream ideas about what a good person or good body should be or do, we are presented with an impossible choice: become buried in shame and self-blame or choose an identity that limits our ability to know and express who we truly are.

It’s time to come home to your body.

“I thought my relationship with food would shift as I became more healthy or spiritual, which it did but it wasn’t a lasting shift. I am discovering a whole inner world that I have spent a lifetime running from and I’m so grateful to be here. It’s new and sometimes very uncomfortable but it’s also joyous and exhilarating.”

Who we are

Angela Braxton-Johnson (her/she) will be facilitating our BIPOC affinity rounds. Angela is a Certified Body Trust Specialist, poet, author and life coach. Angela is here to help guide you into following your own body’s wisdom to a more embodied and fulfilled place. She facilitates healing, liberation and encourages people to reclaim and experience movement in a way that honors their bodies.

Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC (she/her) and Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD (sher/her), the co-founders of Center for Body Trust, a leading voice in the mission to address anti-fat bias and weight stigma and heal body shame. Since 2005, we’ve been holding space for people looking to let go of chronic patterns of dieting, disordered eating, and weight cycling.

In a culture dominated by weight bias and body oppression, we believe reclaiming Body Trust is key to feeling psychologically and physically nourished.

WE BELIEVE we’re all born with trust and connection to our bodies. Along the way, though, this trust is eroded by painful experiences that are exacerbated by harmful cultural messages and expectations.

We do our best to cope with it all. We’re left feeling like our bodies are broken and out of control, and our attempts to “fix” them just become an endless project.

We’ve worked with thousands of people just like you, and we’ve been fine-tuning this work for a long time.

This time is different

You’ve already spent years trying so hard.

We understand the struggle.

But you haven’t failed because you can’t do it; you’ve failed because the plans out there have failed you.

This time, you have an opportunity. This time, you can invest in yourself, instead of investing in the diet, weight loss, wellness and cosmetic fitness industries that make money off of your shame.

Kindness and compassion are the way forward.

No more weighting.
